BMC (Bulk Molding Compound) is a fiber-reinforced thermosetting composite material composed of unsaturated polyester resin, chopped glass fibers (with a content of 10% - 30%), mineral fillers and additives.
Depending on the specific final application field, the formulated composite materials can precisely control their dimensions, possess excellent flame retardancy and anti-arc burn properties, have high dielectric strength, corrosion resistance and dirt resistance, outstanding mechanical properties, low shrinkage and stable color. The flow characteristics, insulation and flame retardancy of the granular molding compound (BMC) are excellent, making it highly suitable for various applications with precise details and dimensions requirements.
We successfully completed the experimental production of a 10L Sigma Mixer for BMC applications for a South African client. The Sigma Mixer – also known as a Sigma Kneader or Z-Blade Mixer – can be used for mixing and kneading BMC materials, as well as for mixing other high-viscosity materials.
Engineers from Jiahe Shengtong Machinery customized this 10L lab-scale Sigma Mixer according to the customer's BMC production process.
1. The material contact surfaces are made of SS304 with a mirror polish, which helps reduce residual material buildup within the mixing chamber.
2. The materials require heating during the mixing process; therefore, the Sigma Mixer with an electrical heating system allows the heating temperature to be set as needed, with a maximum heating temperature of 280°C.
3. Sigma-type blades enable efficient stirring, kneading, and shearing of high-viscosity materials.
4. Small-batch production utilizing manual cylinder tilting and unloading processes can help reduce costs.
5. Sigma mixer with frequency inverter,control blades’ speed: 0-43RPM(Fast Blade)/0-28RPM(Slow Blade)
6. The top lid is equipped with two DN50 sight glasses for conveniently monitoring the mixing level of the BMC.
7. The Sigma Mixer features a 60 cm high platform for convenient operation.
